Cast the Net!

People who go fishing always try to find that special spot where the “fish are biting”, so it will be easy to catch the fish....  The disciples had returned from trying to catch fish all night but were unsuccessful.  Not a single fish had been caught.  Jesus knew this when He tells Peter in Luke 5:4, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”  Why would the Lord be telling him that?  Because Jesus knew where the fish were, and if Peter would obey Him, there would be a great number of fish waiting to be caught.  He was showing Peter something that Peter could not do on his own, and that was where to catch the fish.

Peter then says, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless, at Your word I will let down the net.”  And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.  Luke 5:5-6. 

Each day the Lord knows where to find the lost soul He wants to minister to, but He needs people who will obey Him at His word.  Here is a story related to that.

One day I (Suzanne) felt prompted by the Lord to go to Costco but made a stop at Walmart first.  When I walked into Walmart, I felt impressed to give a GOD STORIES book to the security guard telling him that the Lord had a specific story in the book for him to read.  He gladly accepted the GOD STORIES book and was eager to read it.  Then as I drove to Costco, the traffic came to a crawl.  I was not concerned about the traffic conditions, as I knew that the Lord was in control of my day.  I exited the freeway and continued using the frontage road, when further down the road I saw a man with a sign asking for food and another man in a wheelchair asking for money.  I stopped, gave each man a GOD STORIES book and some money. 

While at Costco, I felt led to talk to a sales demonstrator who, after explaining about the GOD STORIES book, received it and said, “This is just what I need.”  Leaving Costco, I felt I was to go to a bookstore about 7 miles away, and then to drive further to a specific restaurant.  I thought to myself, “More miles, more gas and more money,” but I continued to obey each prompting.  At each stop, I was able to share a GOD STORIES book and tell the recipients that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and by believing in Him they can have eternal life. 

Have we asked the Lord where He wants us to go today, so He can reach those who do not know Him as their Savior?  We may never know how many fish are caught in the net when we “cast” out GOD STORIES.  All we have to do is obey like Peter did, “Nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net,” because Jesus knows where the lost are and He will pull them in.
