There I was, walking through our den with toys on the floor, my two oldest grandsons Jacob (4 yrs.) and Samuel (2 yrs.) were sitting on the chair watching me. Suddenly, my left foot caught on a plastic toy and slid forward while my right leg slid backwards. A second later I was on the floor having done the splits. Just like that, I had pulled every leg muscle and tendon and couldn't move without severe pain.
This happened years ago. Since then I have fallen numerous times, sometimes with only bruises and other times broken bones, but the results of these falls are fresh on my mind. Having fallen so much, I now take every precaution to avoid doing so again.
Falling isn't good. But for anyone who has stumbled in life, something positive can result--if the fall leads to a more careful way of living.
Paul admonished, "Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall" (1 Cor. 10:12). Believers sometimes fall. But if we do, our goal must be to learn from our error and to avoid a second spill.
Have you fallen? If you have stumbled along the course of life's journey, turn to God, humbly repent and confess your sin, asking the Lord to help you get up and keep you from falling again. Then walk close to Jesus Christ.
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." John 1:9
