For years I have hunted all up and down the Rocky Mountains of western USA. I love the adventure and challenge of hunting this region because I live in the flat country of South Texas.
When I am fortunate enough to kill a big bull elk, the work begins. Because we are hunting in ravines and deep canyons, accessibility is very limited. So the animal is skinned on the ground, the meat is taken off of the bone and is put in sacks to be backpacked back to the pickup truck. A short pack out is 1/2 mile, but most are 2 to 3 miles. Usually a person will get 200 to 225 pounds of meat so it takes 3 men carrying 60 to 75 pounds on each meat pack. The person who kills the animal also carries out the head and antlers which weighs 25 pounds more in addition to his meat. The terrain is always up and down at high altitude. Even a person in great shape will struggle as your legs, back and shoulders scream to stop the abuse. It is pure exhilaration when you finally get to the truck and drop your pack.
So many Christians load up our pack of problems, anxiety, and cares of the world when God clearly says cast all your cares and roll your burdens on Me. We sing about Him being our "Waymaker" and how we trust in Him, but then won't give Him the trust to fix our backpack. That thing you are carrying today isn't supposed to be your burden. It's your Father's burden, and He will do a much better job fixing it than you ever will. Drop your pack at His feet today and feel the load come off of your shoulders.
"Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken."
