In the early years of our marriage, through a series of circumstances, my husband John and I wound up living in Donna, Texas, in the heart of Texas’ Lower Rio Grande Valley. We were both new believers, and we had troubles during those early years. However, we found that the Lord’s mercies are indeed great, and His faithfulness is awesome!
In the Valley, John taught school and I worked first in a law office and then at Texas State Technical College. At TSTC, I became the director of Tech Prep of the RGV (now RGV LEAD), a regional nonprofit working with 32 school districts and many other partners. Our work focused on education reform linked with workforce development and economic development. Many believers supported our work in prayer, and the Lord blessed. Our programs served thousands of students, and those students achieved excellent outcomes in academics and technical education. Also, we enjoyed the freedom to talk openly about the Lord in our work. We met strong believers throughout the region, some of whom were the students we served.
The Lord also worked in our family, blessing John and me with three children and five grandchildren, and leading us as we continued to grow in Him. We have now been married for 54 years, and we live in Central Texas, where the Lord continues giving us opportunities to serve Him. Praise the Lord! He is absolutely faithful!
“His compassion never ends. It is only the Lord’s mercies that have kept us from complete destruction. Great is his faithfulness; his loving-kindness begins afresh each day.” Lamentations 3:22-23, TLB
