Louise, an amazing godly woman. Several years ago, when I visited her in Christian Care Retirement Community in Bluffton, Indiana I asked her, "If you had only one thing to share with me, Louise, what would it be?"
Immediately, she responded, "Stay close to Jesus."
Many times, I've replayed fondly that visit in my mind. However, it was different during today's morning prayer time. As I reflected on her words, "Stay Close to Jesus," I saw in my mind's eye crowds of people struggling and the following poem poured forth like a vibrant bubbling stream. So, grabbing my pen, the words began flowing...
STAY CLOSE TO JESUS!
When life's storms unfold with harrowing repercussions…
When leaders display retroactive actions that polarize…
When all around whirlwind gossiping seems to prevail…
When the loss of loved ones lingers on the horizon…
When loneliness grapples with depression…
When fear shrieks cowardice thoughts…
STAY CLOSE TO JESUS!
Maybe one or more of the above "When..." in the poem resonates with you. James 4:8 says, "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." Friend, STAY CLOSE TO JESUS!
"Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!
Death wrapped its ropes around me; the terrors of the grave overtook me.
I saw only trouble and sorrow. Then I called on the name of the Lord:
'Please, Lord, save me!'” Psalm 116:1-4
