While the pastor was praying for everyone’s finances and being a cheerful giver, I felt a strong nudging to open my eyes and turn my head to the right. I witnessed an uplifting moment unfold before my eyes.
In the row ahead of me and slightly off to the right a woman was deep in prayer, her eyes closed and hands prayerfully lifted up to the Lord. Just behind this woman, in my own row, sat my wife. She rifled intently through her purse, peering into each pocket and compartment, rummaging amongst its contents. Her focused search suddenly ceased as her countenance changed to one of surprise. Then a sweet, cheerful smile spread across her face and she gave a gentle nod as if someone
was talking to her and that she was in complete agreement. Clutched in her hand was a $50 bill that had eluded her until that moment. As she regarded the unexpected bounty, understanding dawned - she knew precisely what she must do. “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7
So, immediately she quietly and gently placed the money into the open hand of the praying woman directly in front of her. The woman tightly closed her uplifted hand as if the bill had dropped down from heaven. Then my wife returned to my side and we quickly left the service before the pastor’s prayer ended so as to remain anonymous to the woman so the Lord would receive all the glory.
During this entire time, the praying woman who received the monetary gift never opened her eyes, but continued praying. Her facial expression never changed yet her tightly closed fist clinching the unknown amount of the bill revealed outwardly her inward grateful heart. She had received a Blessing from Heaven!
“It shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and
while they are still speaking, I will hear” Isaiah. 65:24
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be
opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks
finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8
