A FRIEND CLOSER THAN A BROTHER...

Updated: Mar 29

When my dear husband passed away about 4 1/2 years ago, I was so lonely. We had been married for almost 65 years and suddenly there was this empty void in my life. My husband and I went places and did everything together. My precious children have been so good to me but they are busy with their own lives and family and I do not expect them to always be here for me when lonely hours come. Also, my dear siblings have gone out of their way to visit me as well, for which I am so thankful.

Recently I lost one of my dear sisters that was so dear to me creating another void in my life. But in spite of all that, God has been so good to me. The love I have for my dear children and sibling will never change, but there was still something missing. God had shut a door in my life but then He opened a window of blessings.

There is a verse in the Bible that says a friend is sometimes closer than a brother. Though no one can take the place of my children or siblings, God has put into my life some very dear lady friends who have also gone through the loneliness of losing a husband as I have. I am so blessed to live in a Christian Retirement Community where other widows reside, who like me, also need the friendship and fellowship of others. For the most part we are within walking distance one with another. My best friend growing up as a child lives in the next duplex beside me. We married first cousins, and did many things together. I am so thankful that God has kept us together and that we are still close after all these years.

These dear widow friends are like family to me and I often thank God that He has put them into my life to help fill the void of being without my dear husband. Though no one can take his place, time spent with these precious friends are a blessing to me. They give me something to look forward to, to do things with and go places together. I thank God for each and every one of them. They are my dear Sister's in Faith and I love each one so very much. Thank you, dear Sister’s in Faith, for being a part of my life. Most of all I thank, Jesus, who is my very best friend, for sending them into my life.
