MIAMI AFTER MIDNIGHT...

Updated: Mar 29

Rather than flying home to Indiana during a freak nationwide ice storm, we rerouted to Miami. It was after midnight when we headed to a South Beach hotel. The taxi driver drove slowly which made it plain to see the prostitute, the homeless, and the loitering men on the streets. We made it to the hotel, but the smell of new paint made it unacceptable to stay.

Wanting to get back to the airport, the concierge called for a taxi, but none came. We could see a cab parked a block down the street, but it was surrounded by a group of men.

My sisters thought there were no other options and headed there against my objections. Fear surged through me knowing this was a truly dangerous situation. I silently cried out to the Lord, “YOU HAVE TO HELP US!” That very second, a taxi pulled around the corner in an obvious answer to prayer. To this day I have vivid memories of that intense fear, along with an eternal gratitude for God’s saving hand.

“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” Proverbs 18:10
