In 2020 our grandson asked us to come to Indiana to watch him play football, saying, “Our team is going to State.” (And they did go and lost only by one point, 40 to 41). How could we ever resist that invitation?
We made plans to leave Los Fresnos, Texas and arrive in Bluffton, Indiana the first week of August 2020 and stay in a basement apartment of some friends of our daughter and son-in-law. Since Gayle had never stayed more than two weeks away from our Texas home, I wondered how this trip would play out. As we said our good-byes to our youngest son (Jack) and his family, Jack said laughing, “See y’all in three weeks.”
After two weeks in Indiana, Gayle was loving the area and the people. He began talking about possibly buying a place in Bluffton, Indiana. “What happened? Where did my ‘two-week’ husband go?”
Houses at that time were scarce and when one came on the market, it had a contract that same day before we could even look at it. So, we prayed. By the end of October, still no house. I (Myrna) felt in my heart a strong desire for a two bedroom/two bath downstairs condo that had an enclosed garage and a BIG back yard with huge, tall trees. Yet we were told there are no condos in Bluffton, but I knew that desire was in my heart.
We found a house that was way overpriced, needed updated and had no contract on it. We didn’t really have peace about it, but walked away saying, “We’d pray about it.” That same night our daughter, Kristi, received a text from a lady who attended the same church. The woman said there was a condo for sale in the complex where she lived. Arrangements were made to see the condo Monday night with Gayle and Andy/Kristi agreeing to put earnest money down if all was well with the condo. We walked into the two bedroom/two bath downstairs condo that not only had an enclosed garage, but outside was a BIG back yard with huge, tall trees. It was exactly what I had described that was in my heart. We knew immediately that God wanted us there in that condo in Bluffton, Indiana. God put the desire in our heart and then gave us that heart's desire! What a mighty God we serve!
