Jeremiah 29:11 is a favorite of many and is often quoted. One day years ago when reading this scripture, the first three words -- "FOR I KNOW" -- almost leaped off the page of my Bible, thus bringing a rhema word of comfort during a devastating circumstance that was happening at that particular time. Yet, God made it very clear that He was preparing me for even more upcoming, unpleasant events and people, too. I just didn’t know the depth.
One time I was hired where there was only a secretary and the boss. I was added to the staff to develop curriculum materials. It was great working there and the relationship with the secretary was going great until after a few years when I was given more responsibilities, including the oversight of the secretary. Suddenly the office atmosphere changed and relationships became strained. I didn’t know the secretary hadn’t been advised of the change. So, unpleasant events occurred with her becoming more and more passive aggressive! I was clueless as to why it was all happening! The more pleasant and friendly I was to her, the worse she became. The Holy Spirit reminded me once again of the three words, “FOR I KNOW,” in Jeremiah 29:11. Unfortunately, the situation remained the same even though I had informed the boss and nothing changed. I leaned heavily on the Lord and continually maintained a forgiving heart.
Several years after I no longer worked there, one day out of the blue that secretary called me. Surprised to hear her voice, she solemnly and humbly shared she had just learned she had cancer and before she passed away she wanted to ask my forgiveness for all the ways she had purposefully treated me poorly. I reassured her that I had forgiven her years before. YES, GOD KNOWS.
Maybe you’re experiencing a difficult relationship. God really knows exactly what is happening as well as what has happened and what will happen. He understands the fire you are going through. He is concerned about you. He is working things out for you, even when you don't know about it. He cares about you. He doesn't abandon you. He loves you and will not leave you or forsake you. Look up and know that He is watching you and looking out for you. "FOR I KNOW the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11) Lean heavily on the Lord. YES, GOD KNOWS!!
